BODY LANGUAGE.
our body: 60-80% of message
actual words: 7-10%
OUR BODY TALKS!
If you can read and understand body language, you can get what you want.
A special benefit of body language- DETECT AND EXPOSE LIES!

Hand movements are closely associated with emotions.
Touching forearm:interest, concern over something
Folded arms: disinterest, sceptical
Hands gripping upperarms:feeling defensive, in disbelieve
Special tip: When expressing condolences, give a warm handshake and a gentle hug; sorrow is transmitted in this way more naturally and effectively than words.

The eyes are 'windows of the soul'
the eyes make first contact with someone.
sufficient to: start or stop a relationship superiority/ inferiority
special tip: When we meet handicapped people, look at them briefly and then look away to make sure they don't think we are staring at them.

Common behaviours:
-someone looking at us, we will feel unconfortable.
-looking away with the intention to hide the intensity of an emotion or feeling
-no visual contact sometimes gives the impression of isolation
-by staring at someone, you show strong displeasure etowards him/her.

Face expression: significant difference to meaning of a message
ALSO, reveals thoughts, feelings, emotions and attitudes.
We judge people by their facial expressions. BUT sad to say, we are judged the exact same way.
holding chin:
*without resting arm on desk
-thinking hard and concentrating about the particular subject
*arm resting on the desk and propping head up
-disinterested or simply bored.
scratching the neck: stimulated/interested
rubbing the neck repeatedly: shows interest, engagement; slightly nervous [depends on the situation]

Touching nose
sign/ signal: feeling uncomfortable OR the person is LYING!

How to detect lies.
Signs of deception
~limited physical expressiona nd arm and hand movements
~hand, arm and leg movements are towards the own body as the liar takes up less space.
~a person who is lying to you will avoid making eye contact
~hands touching their face, throat and mouth
~touching or scratching their noses or behing their ears
~timing is off between emotinal gestures/expressions and words.
~gesture/expressions don't match the verbal statement such as frowning when saying 'I love You'
~expressions are limited to mouth movements when someone is faking emotions instead of the whole face.
~a guilty person gets defensive while an innocent person will often go on the offensive
~a liar is unconfortable facing his quetsioner/accuser and may turn his head/body away
~a liar might unconciously place objects (books, coffee cup, etc) between themselves and you
~ a guilty person may speak more than natural, adding unnecesssary details to convince you... they are not comfortable with silence or pauses during the conversation.

CAUTION!
-do not jump to conlclusions just because someone shows one or more signs does not make her a liar! GET YOU FACTS RIGHT FIRST!
